Growing God’s Church

On one of the doors in Friendship House you’ll see a length of wallpaper with lots of writing on it – this is not a graffiti wall but a mapping of all the activities that All Saints Church undertake.  We tried to place these activities, according to whom they mainly served, on a spectrum from those with whom we have little or no contact to those who are ‘active Christians’.  The idea being that we can
then see if there are any ‘gaps’ and, if so, we can give prayerful thought to how these ‘gaps’ may be filled –that’s what those who met last Wednesday are now doing and we are all welcome to add our own prayer thoughts and to feed in any ideas that are brought to our
mind.  As you’ll see, we already do a lot but there’s always more that God may call us to do in our service of this parish.

Thankyou in anticipation, Revs David & Rachel

Church Drive Appeal

If you use the
Church Drive to access the church, the graveyard or the footpath through to
Oliver Road, you will, no doubt, have noticed that it is in urgent need of resurfacing.  Unfortunately, the
financial responsibility for such work falls on the shoulders of All Saints Church, and we simply do not have the money needed (approximately £8000).  We have applied to a number of grant awarding bodies and we presently await their decisions.
In these difficult times I hesitate to ask for your financial support but I know how much you value your church and its environment and so I,reluctantly, appeal for your support.  If you wish to make a donation (no matter how ‘small’) then please put it in an envelope marked ‘Church Drive Appeal’ and drop it round to the vicarage.

Thanking you in anticipation,

Rev David

Friendship House Library

Cathy and Caitlin have persuaded me to have a long overdue sort-out in my office – part of which has meant my going through my books. This has prompted me to set up a ‘library’ in Friendship House from which you are all free to borrow any book that catches your eye – I’d much rather they were borrowed and read than sat gathering dust on my book shelves.  So, please feel free to browse and borrow.
Rev David

All Saints’ Finances

In these days of depressing financial news, it’s good to be able to report that, at our PCC meeting on 18 May, 2011, we projected another year when our income should exceed our expenditure!  We give thanks to God for His gracious generosity and continue to trust ourselves and this part of His Church to His provision.

Prayer Ministry

Pray is at the heart of our walk with Christ and prayer support for each other is a vital part of this walk.  Sometimes individuals need someone to spend a moment with them in quiet, confidential prayer.  I hope we can offer this, when needed, after our worship in both the morning and evening. If you feel you could be part of a team to offer such prayer support, then please have a word with me – support and guidance will be provided.
Thank you, Rev David

Excellence in the Community Awards

On Tuesday evening 12th October, 2011, I had the great pleasure of going to The Dome in Buxton with Brian and his gang.  Brian and his gang – Derek, Derek, Darren, David and Bob – are the ‘lads’ who work so hard to keep our churchyard in such tip top condition - I believe that you’d have to travel a long, long way to find a church yard in such a well kept shape.  Their hard work was recognised at this evening’s event with their being awarded a beautiful glass plaque and a framed certificate by Derbyshire County Council as part of their annual ‘Excellence in the Community Awards’.  In all a total of 82 individuals and groups received such awards and it was wonderful to see Brian and his gang go forward to receive such a richly deserved award.  Well done!
Thanks also go to Alan Boswell for his valuable work maintaining the mowers for the ‘gangs’ work in the churchyard.
It was equally satisfying to see a member of our church going forward to receive her ‘Excellence in the Community Award’ for her voluntary work with the 1st Kirk Hallam Brownie Group. What began as helping out for a couple of weeks became a joy for the next 49 years and continues to be so today, even though now retired from office.  Well done!
Rev David

Notice that someone’s not in Church?

Why not take them a newsletter and call in for a chat? In addition, if you know of any person who would like to receive Holy Communion at home before Christmas, then please let me know and I’ll do my best to visit them.
Thanks Rev David

Our church building is open on Wednesday afternoons from 2pm to 4pm and on Saturday mornings from 10am to 12 noon.  If you wish to look around this ancient building or to take a quiet moment to reflect, pray, light a prayer candle  or simply take time apart     from the bussle of everyday life, then please feel free to drop in.  There will be somebody present if you wish to talk with them or pray with them.
Just a reminder that if you could spare half-an-hour or more, at any time in the week, to enable our ‘church’ to be open, then please contact either myself or one of the churchwardens for a key.

Thanking you in anticipation, Rev David
